Code of Conduct & Policies

Code of Conduct

The Manitoba Library Association (MLA) is dedicated to providing a positive experience for Manitoba Libraries Conference (MLC) attendees, presenters, guests and volunteers. Respect and courtesy towards one another are required at all times while attending MLC. All attendees are required to follow these guidelines to support a welcoming and positive experience:

Harassment is not tolerated in any form at MLC. This includes:

  • Intimidation, stalking and following.
  • Verbal comments or non-verbal expressions related to gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age or religious beliefs.
  • Verbal abuse.
  • Harassment via photography or recording.
  • Inappropriate physical contact.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention.

MLC promotes discussions on a wide range of topics presented respectfully and courteously. Comments and questions should be relevant to the session to which they refer. Individuals contributing inappropriately, including through off-topic comments, personal attacks or self-promotion, may be asked to cease participation.

See the conference Social Media Policy below for guidelines on respectful online participation and sharing.

If a conference attendee, presenter, guest or volunteer feels that this Code of Conduct has been breached, they should report the concern to an MLA volunteer or a member of the Conference Planning Committee. Contact us about any concern you should have.

MLA reserves the right to take action deemed necessary and appropriate, including removal from the conference without warning or refund, in response to unacceptable behaviour outlined in this policy. MLA may also prohibit attendance at future events, virtually or in person.

Thank you for helping MLA maintain a welcoming environment for all conference participants.

Conference Social Media Policy

  • Ask conference attendees for permission before photographing them or sharing photographs of them.
  • Credit presenters whose ideas or content appear in posts, including slides, photographs or recordings. Respect any presenter request not to share their content.
